The violence of life

Fires burn inside us
Screams and shouts and upset minds
Fiercest eyes
Your flickering hearts
This family you create
Don’t shatter that splintered door
She spits and scars
He frightens our careful hearts
Co-inhabit these inhibitions
She prohibits
He lifts the ban
Upstairs I am silent
And wonder how lucky we are
Soft hushed voices now
Doused and drawn down
Spells we formulate
Spires we aspirate
Just love left
All held close
No one will die just quite yet.
